Developing Personal and Academic Literacy, Voice, and Perspective Through Mindfulness and Dance-Making Practices

Participants will learn the A (Attention), B (Balance), and C's (compassion) of mindfulness as well as how to integrate these in the K12 classroom to promote and support the development of voice, focus, reflection, and analysis in the learning process.  Participants will specifically learn how to apply these instructional techniques to ELA standards that center on telling stories, reading written texts for comprehension, analysis, and comparison, and defining one's own voice/perspective as a writer. Parallels between written compositions and dance compositions and the inherent intersections that can inform artful instruction will guide this process.  Supporting materials, including narrative rubrics that provide formative and summative feedback and evaluation, will be included so that information can be immediately integrated into instruction in one's own classroom.
